Introducing: The Summer Recess Games
The Olympic spirit is one that is shared and celebrated world over. It truly seems that it’s one of the few global celebrations in which humanity comes together. And much of it is due to the shared love of sports around the world - and the thrill of watching competition of games and activities that many of us did as kids. Personally I know that I’m no Usain Bolt or Simone Biles, but I know I dashed through my neighborhood many a times as a youngster and I certainly have tried my hand at a perfect cartwheel or two.
But, unlike the athletes headed to Tokyo, most of us do these sports and activities during our breaks from other parts of our day. We fit in a lunch ride, get out with the dog first thing in the morning for a walk, shoot hoops in our drive way, head to the pool for some laps, etc. For many of us, this is the part of our day that brings us joy, fun, fulfillment, laughter and a lot of value to our lives. With all of this in mind, at Advanced Recess, we think this is something worth absolutely recognizing. So, while a small number of the world’s best athletes will be in Japan competing at the highest level, we want to celebrate the ambition of the millions of people around the world who include and prioritize play in their life through the first ever: Summer Recess Games.
Spanning the dates of the Games in Tokyo, AR will host the Recess Games everywhere, a DIY participation based event where you can win at Recess across a variety of fun and unique activities including - but not limited to these categories:
At the Lake // On the Trail // In the backyard // At the Beach // Out Camping // In the Mountains // On Wheels // At the Park // Arts and Crafts // With Your Dog // In the Garden // Kitchen and Grilling // In the water
We are inviting everyone everywhere to enter to be part of our Games in which we will showcase the spirit of play in the world. As part of this, we’ve put together our own flag so you can be part of our team - The Play Nation! We simply ask you to complete this form to enter so we can send you a flag. From there, we ask you to showcase your activity and participation in The Recess Games in social media and tagging us @Advacned Recess with the hashtag #summerrecessgames
The fun kicks off on Friday, July 23rd so we suggest submitting your application as soon as possible to ensure you get a flag to be part of our Recess Games Opening Ceremonies which we will be leading from our Summer Games HQ - a cabin in Maine.
So come one, come all and let’s celebrate the simple and wonderful joys that come through the best subject of all: Recess!
