A Fresh Catch on Play
Want to catch some play? Here’s the freshest catch...
Three years ago, Victoria DiSavino started a job with Patagonia River Guides. While working at a lodge in Patagonia, she discovered her passion for fly fishing and it transformed her life.
Through her work at the lodge, she followed a river of passion and play and she’s now living with her partner Sam in Montana where she spends much of her time fly fishing with him.
Victoria describes her ideal play day as a day spent fishing. It would include an early morning start to prep their gear with time to chat with their guides to learn something new about biology, geology and casting techniques.
The day would also include lunch by the water (with a fine dining experience!) and the day wouldn’t end until late afternoon with tired eyes, heavy legs and hearts filled with joy from a day spent at play. \\
That’s our kind of catch, indeed.
A little more with Victoria:
What do you do for play?
I love to Fly Fish, an activity I discovered three years ago while working at a Fly Fishing Lodge in Patagonia. Little did I know that it would become the vehicle that would allow me to connect with nature in the most beautiful places in the world, encourage self reflection and the activity I look forward to sharing with my partner Sam.
How does play motivate you in your life?
Fly Fishing is a lifelong pursuit and can get as complicated as you want it to be. It reminds me that no matter where you are in the learning process, it is upon you to embrace the journey. All you need is the burning desire to learn something new, patience and practice.
How do you benefit from it?
It gives me the opportunity to unplug and lose sense of time, which I otherwise rarely get to do. It teaches me to step back and look at the big picture before attempting my first cast; things like water flow, bug activity, outside conditions and fish behavior.
It teaches me patience, as it can take countless casts and fly changes before a fish is willing to jump in the game. And, when it doesn’t happen, I learn to let go and find a different target. I can think of other areas in my life where I can apply these lessons.
